What is Excellence?
According to Rick Pitino, Excellence is the unlimited ability to improve the quality of what you have to offer.
I am particularly interested about the “*unlimited ability”* and improve
So we’ll be discussing on building ourselves to improve the quality of what we have to offer our society. You do know you have something unique to offer. And the earlier you start working on that the help it will do for us all.
Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good or having an outstanding feature or quality. It is a term which can mean different things to different individuals.
Some of us will want to excel academically. That’s what you were meant to be.
Another set will prefer financial excellence. There’s that group that’ll enjoy career success. We all have our own desires and path to tread on.
Secondly; WHAT IS BUILDING?
According to Webster’s Dictionary, It is to develop according to a systematic plan, by a definite process, or on a particular base. It is to progress toward a peak.
To attain success or excellence you need to build and building needs;
1. Planning
2. Process
Excellence is never by coincidence. I keep telling anyone that I talk to that GREATNESS/EXCELLENCE only obey PRINCIPLES. There are principles to follow for every of our desired areas of excellence.
I like the way Aristotle said it: Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, and determines your destiny.
Never live your life by chance.
When you live life casually, you’ll become a casualty -Mr Impact
According to my spiritual father; Bishop Oyedepo: You can only have classmates and not life-mates.
The fact that others are there before you does not mean you won’t arrive. Just move with PRINCIPLES and your steps will be guided to the palace of excellence.
So with this HOW THEN DO WE BUILD?
In every building you need building materials and planning.

Materials Needed to Build Personal Excellence
1. BEGIN WITH THE DREAM AND A ZEAL. Every great man is birthed by dreams. Like I said earlier; Never live by chance or you’ll be chanced by those with dreams. Everyone of us have our own dreams. But my question is are u really dreaming? Dreams are Where unsolved problems are solved.
Martin Luther King had a dream for the black nation and was killed actualizing that dream and even after death the dream spoke forth loud with Barrack Obama becoming the first ever black president of USA.
Henry Ford had a dream to build cars affordable and durable for all and even after death the dream ford mobile lives on
What are you dreaming?
Every great vision begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world – Harriet Tubman.
A dream without the passion to push it forward will die and never resurrect. Most of us are scared of even trying out the dreams we have due to fear of failure. You’ve failed already if you hide that dream somewhere. What’s the essence of having a dream if you can’t give a try.
I need not to remind you of d number of times Micheal Faraday failed before achieving his goal. Let me not go too far: You know the number of times our president contested for the seat of president before he won.
Good or bad he had the dream to be a democratic president and whatever our judgement will be he has achieved his dream and a fulfilled person.
Have a dream and never back off
Some of us are scared because of NAYSAYERS. They’ll laugh at me; they’ll call me names and all. Naysayers make you a better SLAYER. Remember have a dream. If you have one already; come out of the dark and start
2. METRICS (MEASURE IT)
Measurement of past or present level of success makes you better tomorrow

Why it is important for you to build yourself up is because so many lives depend on you. Only if you know the people that are waiting for you to succeed so you can reach out to them. Until you’re developed you can’t develop others.
For Example; the work of a doctor is to save life. What happen if that doctor is sick, meaning he can’t treat others. So for him to treat others, he must first treat himself.
No matter how he will love to he just can’t because they both need treatment
There are lives you need to save, help, secure but until you treat (develop) yourself you can’t develop them.
It is self-development first before others development
That I am in this platform today is a result of intense self development. If I don’t do that then I’ll have nothing to offer you guys and won’t be here
Measurement is key if you must improve. An athlete (esp runners) will always measure their time to improve. A student that want to do well will always check his last semester result and see the lapses to know how he/she will improve. If you see a student that care less about his past results, you’ve seen a student that’s going nowhere.
Likewise a business needs key performance measurements. It could be, for example, market share %, profit, and productivity. Your business is the way it is because you run it by chance and not by choice. It’s because you run it without plan.
Imagine a business man that does not have a separate account for his business. He does not know how much he earned last month or his expenditures. That business will remain local. Because it can’t improve
Even spiritually, you need to measure how you were and where you are now.
Measurement grows you. The reason you are stagnant is because you dont know how you are doing. You only know that by measurement.
3. BE INNOVATIVE
You must be creative.
You must think.
You must make use of your private time to develop your thinking skills. What can I do in this my business, career, school, work that’ll make me excel. What I’m I supposed to do that I’m not doing right? Ask yourself questions.
Sometimes by asking ourselves questions we get the answers we have been seeking for years.

Every great vision is a product of great thinking.
Greatness is seeing what everyone has seen and thinking what no one has thought. I have often said this severally: Every great outdoor performance is a product of series of indoor rehearsals. The most difficult work is done behind the scene and that’s what takes man to front of the scene.
